Citizenship, Merit, and Equality
The pursuit of Liberty is a story of achieving great triumphs and overcoming horrific tragedies. The story reflects our shared history, heritage, and heroes. The heroes who fought for Liberty sought to create a nation where citizens, through their merit, would have equal opportunity to achieve their pursuit of happiness. Expanding Liberty became a national priority and through political, economic, and military actions, citizenship was expanded to those unjustly denied. It is necessary to highlight the achievements made by heroes like Bishop Richard Allen socially, Booker T. Washington academically, and Sarah Breedlove economically. We must bring their accomplishments to light and reveal the imprint on our heritage.
Citizenship: Unlike subjects and slaves, national citizens are free to pursue their aspirational dreams.
Merit: Through meritocracy, citizens can improve their quality of life and enjoy social mobility.
Equality: While no one can guarantee equitable outcomes, equal opportunities allow access for all individuals to flourish.
